Torrox’s resort on the sea
Torrox Costa is a modern coastal town. First impressions are it is awash with apartments that are high-rise and take advantage of the stunning view from Torrox Costa’s Mediterranean sea. But, don’t be put off by the thought of having a closer look at the city since it has plenty to offer visitors .
It is most famous for its long sandy beaches that are surrounded by an extremely long promenade. There are many amenities such as restaurants, bars as well as ice cream shops as well as children’s play areas all with views of the ocean.

Ferrara Beach and Promenade
Ferrara is the principal Torrox costa beach. It is located just next to the Torrox lighthouse.

The beach is sand-colored and has several umbrella beds made of palms, and places where you can sprawl out, along with shower facilities, toilets , and access for disabled.
In the evening, the promenade is a favorite place to stroll around in the evening. In summer there are usually market stalls for shoppers to peruse and street performers to entertain guests while enjoying an outdoor dining experience in one of the many eateries.
The “Balcon de Torrox”
Just to the north of the promenade in Torrox Costa stands an interesting balcony that overlooks the ocean. The balcony is designed to resemble an emerald yacht’s sail constructed of glass and metal it is one of the major landmarks of the region that marks the beginning to the Ferrrara promenade. The Balcon can also be utilized as stage for local fiestas.
Just behind the Balcon de Torrox is a high white lighthouse which was constructed in 1864. it is 39 meters in tall. The first lighthouse signals would have been created with light bulbs made from olive oil. In the early 20th century, they were replaced by lighting made of petroleum. Electric power first came into use in 1922. However, throughout the Civil War, the keeper required a switch back to oil lamps because of frequent breakdowns. In 1947, a generator was added to ensure the electricity.
Roman remains, and Lighthouse Visitor Centre
The area that is located below the ‘Balcon’, and close the Lighthouse are numerous Roman remains. The ‘Balcon’ features an open floor with glass, from which it is possible to look down on what remains of Roman artifacts (the glass is often stained sometimes). There are more remains along the promenade.
In May of 2015, a visitor center was inaugurated within the Torrox Lighthouse. In the former house of the keeper, it has over 200 square meters of exhibits that include an exact scale model of the garum pool as well as a model of the ceramic ovens, and the model of an Roman ship. Also, there is the full-sized reproduction of one the Roman burials discovered in the region and replicas of some of the archaeological finds during excavations. The museum also hosts an exhibition that focuses on the past and development of the lighthouse.
El Morche and other beaches of Torrox Costa
The west side to the west of Torrox Costa, is El Morche A long, sandy beach, which is situated next to a less developed area, where high-rises are replaced by low-rise structures.
The beach is equipped with everything you could expect , such as showers, umbrellas, toilets as well as access for handicapped.
Other beaches that lie along the coastline of Torrox include Penoncillo, Mazagarrobo and Calaciete. They are also less developed and natural beaches located next to Torrox’s main road (N340) that runs to the village of Nerja. Torrox Costa Watchtowers
Two watchtowers more than 400 years old can be found close to Torrox Costa, Torre del Morche and the Torre de Calaceite. They were built to monitor the sea to protect the inhabitants from constantly advancing pirates. They are both designated as Bien de Interes Culturales’ (Assets of Cultural Interest).
Torre del Morche Torre del Morche is located near the beach in El Morche, hence the name (although it is also called Torre Gui). The first tower of a watchtower constructed in Torrox and is recorded in documents since 1497. This 9-meter tall conical tower has recently been renovated, and it still has its stuccoed Mudejar-style facings. It is visible from the N-340 motorway, and at night is lit.
The Tower of Calaceite was also constructed during the fifteenth century. It was constructed of mortar made of limestone and masonry. It is also 9 meters tall. Due to its cliff top position, which is about 130 feet higher than the sea The view of the Mediterranean can be breathtaking in clear weather, which is of course the primary motive behind the location.
